5G Internet arrives this Wednesday in Brasília, the 1st city to receive technology

The adviser of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), Moisés Moreira, told the CNN Brazil that the 5G mobile internet signal will be implemented in Brasília this Wednesday (6).

Brasília is the first city in the country to receive the technology. The next ones will be Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre and São Paulo. The expectation is that all capitals will have the technology released by September 29.

On Monday afternoon (4), the Monitoring Group for the Implementation of Solutions for Interference Problems in the 3,625 to 3,700 MHz band (Gaispi) – a group coordinated by Moisés Moreira and created to take care of the implementation of 5G in Brazil – holds an extraordinary meeting to discuss and formalize the release of the signal.

Today, in some cities in Brazil, the Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) standard is used, which, despite offering better quality, uses the existing 4G frequency, which is what happens in most countries, according to Ookla, the company responsible for analyzing internet access performance metrics around the world.

The countries that have the most advanced technology, called “standalone” (SA), “self-sufficient” or “pure” 5G, are few. This is the technology that will be available in Brasília from this Wednesday.

Currently, the leading country for 5G speed is South Korea, which has an average download rate of 406 megabits per second. The average of 4G is 17.1 megabits per second.

According to Opensignal, a company also responsible for analyzing internet connections, most 5G SA networks (pure 5G) are in China.
