6.8 magnitude earthquake hits western Mexico days after another strong quake

A 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit Mexico on Thursday, shaking buildings in Mexico City, just days after another strong tremor killed two people and damaged hundreds of homes.

Residents of the Mexican capital rushed out of their homes when the earthquake alarm sounded and buildings shook.

Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum made a statement via social media shortly afterward that there were no initial reports of damage to the town.

The earthquake, which the United States Geological Survey (USGS) first measured at magnitude 7.0, was recorded at a depth of 20.7 km, slightly deeper than Monday’s quake. (19).

On the occasion, the anniversary of the deadly earthquakes in 1985 and 2017, a magnitude 7.6 tremor struck western Mexico, killing two people in the Pacific port of Manzanillo.
