6-year-old boy and four adults shot in attack on bar in Rio de Janeiro

A 6-year-old boy and five other men were shot during an attack on a bar in the Pilar neighborhood, in Duque de Caxias, in Baixada Fluminense, on the afternoon of last Sunday (14).

According to the PM, the agents were called to the Adão Pereira Municipal Hospital, due to an occurrence of four people who were victims of gunshot wounds and had been admitted to the unit.

After confirming the facts at the hospital, teams from the 15th Military Police Battalion in Duque de Caxias located the suspect on Avenida Guanabara, in Vila São Luís, where he was arrested and taken to the 60th Police Station.

The Municipal Health Department of Duque de Caxias confirmed that five victims of gunshot wounds, in the Pilar neighborhood, were admitted to the hospital on Sunday afternoon.

Carlos Alberto do Nascimento Faria, 26, who was grazed by a bullet on his left leg, but was discharged from hospital on Sunday night, after being kept under observation for a few hours.

The 6-year-old boy suffered a perforated skull and underwent surgery. The boy is intubated and in intensive care, and his condition is very serious.

Douglas Augusto Vitório Silva, 32 years old, Alex Júnior Marcelino do Nascimento, 30 years old, and Ian Rodrigues Barbosa de Carvalho, 21 years old, were victims of puncture wounds to the hand, arm, abdomen, leg, jaw and chest.

They all underwent surgeries, which went smoothly, and their health remains stable. All three remain hospitalized.

The Fogo Cruzado Institute has updated the mural with all the children shot this year in Greater Rio. According to the Institute, it includes information about the victims such as gender, age, names and some faces.

Between January and July 2024, in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro, 13 children were shot, with 2 dead and two injured. The number of injured increased compared to the same period last year, but there were three times fewer deaths, 9 injured and 2 dead, respectively.
