6-year-old girl is shot in the face while sleeping at home in Salvador

A 6-year-old girl was shot in the face while sleeping in the house where she lived, in the Alto da Terezinha neighborhood, in Salvador (BA). The case occurred on Wednesday morning (1st).

The projectile would have gone through the roof and ceiling of the room where the child was, in Travessa Nossa Senhora de Lourdes, hitting her in the upper part of the face, according to information from the Civil and Military police.

The Specialized Police Station for the Suppression of Crimes Against Children and Adolescents is investigating the case as attempted murder. “According to preliminary information, the child’s parents realized, upon waking up, that the girl had a wound on the upper part of her face,” explained the Civil Police in a statement.

The Military Police reported that the child was taken to a hospital in the region, where he received his first medical care. The child was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Hospital do Subúrbio and underwent surgery. There is no updated information about her health status.

According to the police, no shots were heard in the area at the time of the incident, which raises even more doubts about the circumstances of the shooting.

The Civil Police reported that they have already begun investigations and interviews to clarify what happened. On Wednesday afternoon, the girl’s father gave a statement to the police, who continue to investigate the case.
