60 million laptops were sold last quarter

Worldwide shipments of notebooks, excluding models with a detachable keyboard, reached 60 million units in the fourth quarter of last year. This figure is more than 10% higher than in the third quarter. This data is contained in a report by Digitimes Research.

Analysts attribute the increase in sales to strong demand associated with the transition to remote work and training amid the ongoing pandemic. In addition, sales rose at the end of the year due to advertising campaigns and government subsidies to consumers.

According to Digitimes Research, shipments for the whole of 2020 increased by more than 25% compared to 2019 and reached 201 million units. The last time such a high rate was recorded was nine years ago.

Sales are expected to decrease slightly in the current quarter from last year’s fourth quarter, reflecting a seasonal pattern. However, the decline will not be as pronounced as in previous years. It will not exceed 10%, whereas it used to be 15-25%.
