The first person without terminal illness to have the procedure approved in Colombia died of euthanasia this Friday night.
Victor Escobar Prado, 60, has been fighting for the law for two years with the help of his lawyer, Luis Giraldo Montenegro, who confirmed his death last night.
“Victor just made it…He just took a break from the pain. God will have mercy on him…you are a warrior,” he said on Twitter.

With chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, he was dependent on oxygen and had sequelae aggravated by two strokes and a traffic accident that occurred during his youth.
Euthanasia has been legal in Colombia since 2015, but it was only allowed for terminally ill patients.

Martha Sepúlveda case
A recent case, by the also Colombian Martha Sepúlveda, 51, was made public last year, but without the same outcome as Escobar.
In October, Sepúlveda had announced that she was allowed to undergo euthanasia even though she was not a terminal patient, to avoid suffering due to the amyotrophic lateral sclerose (IS IT OVER THERE).
The Colombian woman was going to die of her own free will on October 10, but 36 hours before her death, the Institute Colombian de Dor (Incodol), in Medellín, reported that the procedure would not occur.
