$ 644 million stolen from Bybit are not subject to return

BYBIT Crypto -Railway data show that $ 644 million from $ 1.4 billion stolen three months ago cannot be tracked more. Approximately $ 693 million (or 49.5%) can still be returned, about $ 63 million (4.5%) are frozen in the accounts with the efforts of the exchange and authorities.

Stolen products were systematically laundered after a few cryptomixers. The largest part – almost $ 247.5 million (about 966 BTC), was washed through the Wasabi Wallet, and also $ 94.1 million through EXCH. Smaller amounts passed through Tornado Cash ($ 2.5 million in ETH) and Railgun ($ 1.7 million in ETH).

EXCH is most of all questions, which publicly announced the closure in April 2025, but continues to work. TRM Labs analysts confirmed that the cryptomixer is still functioning through internal APIs.

The transactions on the site are completely opaque, since all received and sent assets are mixed, and it is impossible to find out how many people are hiding behind certain addresses, and tracking is extremely difficult, – explained in TRM Labs.

Recall that shortly after hacking, Bybit offered a reward of 5% exchanges, protocols, mixers and everyone who will help to freeze the funds stolen by the North Korean Lazarus group. The company promised to pay these funds immediately after blocking the assets.
