The desire to travel unites us all after the months of confinement imposed by the pandemic. And it happens so of be dazzled by the numerous offers that reach us through the digital channels we have: applications, social media and e-mails. Some of these at first glance really seem too good to be true and, in fact, in some cases they are not. It is about scams hidden behind images of dream places in which to spend holidays at very low prices.
The British use the expression ‘purchase scamTo point them out. In short, the victim through e-mails, advertising posts on social networks and phone calls, is induced to make a payment for goods or services that in fact it will never receive. Thus it happens that a dream turns into a nightmare.
A phenomenon that is likely to increase following the increase in digital transactions also due to the health crisis. Yes, because we are complicit in the restrictions on travel and, in some cases, the fear of handling physical money, we are increasingly inclined to make purchases electronically, remotely. According to a recent survey conducted by Revol, a fintech company that offers digital financial services, 82% of the thousand Italian respondents say they prefer to use a card or telephone to pay; for 43% the main reason for doing so is to avoid touching the cash.
The services related to our holidays that we buy online are now many: from accommodation, to the plane, passing through the rental of a car, now almost everything passes through sites and applications. The pandemic has also had an impact on these issues: unfortunately for the environment, 45% of the Italian respondents stated that they will use a private means of transport to limit the risks of infection with Covid-19 in reaching your travel destination. And the issue of health safety also affects the choice of destination and structure: almost half of the respondents (46%) choose the country for their holidays based on the efficiency of the health system and hotels that comply with safety requirements are preferred by 57% of Italians.
