Few things are as frustrating as wanting to go out to dinner on a Sunday night and come across most restaurants closed. With this in mind, the column Caroline Grimm This month brings seven suggestions on Curitiba to end the weekend well.
With options that cover the most varied styles of cuisine, atmosphere and price range, from Arabic to Japanese restaurants and pizzerias, check out the columnist's selection below.
Where to eat on Sunday night in Curitiba:
-
Ippai Ramen

Specializing in ramen, the restaurant is perfect for ending the weekend with an informal dinner, full of flavor.
Among the “mandatory” orders, the Tonkotsu Ramen (R$55) stands out, which has a powerful broth prepared over 12 to 15 hours. For hotter days, a great option is Hiyashi Chuka (R$40), a type of refreshing ramen, with colorful ingredients such as cucumber, tomato, carrot, chashu and kinshi tamago (finely cut egg omelet), served at a temperature environment.
Whatever your choice of main dish, be sure to order the sensational Karaage (R$30), a breaded and fried chicken thigh that is pure succulence.
Ippai Ramen: Alameda Dr. Carlos de Carvalho, 1011 – Batel, Curitiba – PR / No telephone / Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, from 6pm to 10pm / No reservations.
-
Bavarian Canteen and Pizzeria

Are you looking for a more intimate place for a romantic dinner or simply a comforting meal? The traditional Bavarian is the right choice.
The house's flagship is the French Onion Soup (R$52), which, depending on your appetite, can serve as a main dish. If you're hungry for more, go for the Bavarian Lasagna (R$ 135, serves two people), baked in a wood-fired oven, arriving at the table bubbling.
Bavarian Canteen and Pizzeria: Alameda Augusto Stellfeld, 18 – Centro, Curitiba – PR / Tel.: (41) 3232-1995 / Opening hours: every day, from 11:30 am to 3 pm and from 6 pm to midnight / Reservations via link.
-
Nuu Nikkei

If you're looking for a more sophisticated environment, with light food and lots of drink options, Nuu Nikkei is your destination.
To start, I recommend the Tuna Ceviche (R$46) and the Unagui Kabayaki (R$80), a freshwater eel lacquered with artisanal teriyaki and finished with Maldon salt. An explosion of umami!
Among the hot dishes, a highlight is the Fideuá Nikkei (R$ 112 for shrimp; R$ 168 for lobster). A delight for the palate and the eyes.
Nuu Nikei: Rua Fernando Simas, 333 – Mercês, Curitiba – PR / Tel.: (41) 3538-6956 / Opening hours: Tuesday to Thursday, from 6pm to 11pm; Friday, from 6pm to 11:30pm; Saturday, from 12pm to 3pm and from 6pm to 11:30pm; Sunday from 12pm to 3pm and from 6pm to 11pm / Reservations via link.

Piola Curitiba

To end Sunday on a high note, you couldn't miss the option of a good pizza. Piola, in addition to offering incredible combinations of flavors on pizzas, also offers great options for hot dishes.
Among the most popular pizzas in the house, the delicious Marmi (R$ 87 individual; R$ 124 large) stands out, prepared with mozzarella, raw Italian ham, pre-roasted tomatoes in a wood-fired oven, Chevre a L' goat cheese Huile and pepper jelly.
On warmer days, I recommend the Gallipoli (R$84 individual; R$119 large), which features sirloin carpaccio, burrata, Dijon mustard, capers, Sicilian lemon oil and gran formaggio.
If you prefer something more substantial, try the Gnocchi Bibiena (R$52 half portion; R$74 whole). In addition to the gnocchi being super soft, which melts in your mouth, it features crispy bacon, dried mushrooms, mascarpone, fig jam and fresh cream.
Don't forget to save some space for the classic Tiramisù (R$ 35), which will certainly be one of the best you've ever tried.
Piola Curitiba: Alameda Dom Pedro II, 105 – Batel, Curitiba – PR / Tel.: (41) 3225-7725 / Opening hours: Sunday to Thursday, from 6pm to 11pm; Friday and Saturday, from 6pm to midnight / Reservations via link.

CIAO – Italian Salumeria

Is it a warm and pleasant night and asking for outdoor tables? Go to Ciao, order a nice bottle of wine and be happy.
If the idea is to order several dishes to share, be sure to include in your order the Carpaccio De Bresaola (R$55), a cold cuts board and the spectacular Burrata with Prosciutto Crudo, Fig & Honey (R$89).
Of the main dishes, the Tagliatelle alla Carbonara (R$ 69) and the Tagliatelle ai Frutti di Mare (R$ 75) shine on the menu.
CIAO – Italian Salumeria: Shopping Novo Batel – Alameda Dom Pedro II, 255 – Loja 20 – Batel, Curitiba – PR / Tel.: (41) 98437-0202 / Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, from 12pm to 10pm / Reservations via link.

Nayme Arabic Cuisine

If the occasion is a lively dinner with friends, Nayme is a great option, offering a colorful and cheerful atmosphere, as well as top-quality Arabic cuisine.
The unmissable dish is the Burj (R$61 for a large one; R$45 for a small one). Assembled with interspersed layers of raw kibbeh, tabbouleh, braised meat with walnuts, almonds and chestnuts, finished with curds and crispy onions, this dish provides a beautiful sample of what the house has to offer.
Mjadra (R$ 29), rice with Lebanese lentils finished with crispy onion, is pure happiness both alone and as a side dish. On colder days, be sure to try the Quibe Cozido na Coalhada (R$75).
And, of course, the extensive dessert menu pleases all types of palates.
Nayme Arabic Cuisine: Rua Cel. Dulcídio, 572 – Batel, Curitiba – PR / Tel.: (41) 9856-0039 (WhatsApp) / Opening hours: every day, from 12pm to 11pm / Reservations by phone (41) 3308-1882.
-
Las Tablas – Parrilla Porteña

For carnivores out there, Las Tablas offers great cuts prepared on the grill and served à la carte.
Start your experience with the Bread with Garlic and Parsley (R$ 11), continue with the Cheese and Onion Empanada (R$ 18) and finish with the Roasted Strip (R$ 141 for a half portion). Don't forget to try the Potato Mayonnaise (R$38), which, in my opinion, is one of the best in the city.
Las Tablas – Parrilla Porteña: Rua Gutemberg, 23 – Batel, Curitiba – PR / Tel.: (41) 3075-0348 / Opening hours: every day, from 12pm to 11pm / Reservations via link.
