The Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, participated this Saturday (2) in the D-Day Mobilization Against Dengue in the city of Serra, in Espírito Santo. The state is in an emergency situation due to the disease.
According to her, “75% of dengue outbreaks are inside homes”. “On this day to combat dengue, let's look at every tire, vase, and uncapped water tank. We know what has to be done, we will be committed people”, said the minister.
Alongside teams from the Unified Health System (SUS) and governor Renato Casagrande (PSB), Nísia also highlighted the importance of the partnership between the federal government, states, municipalities and society in the daily work to eliminate the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
“If there is no unity, there is no health. So we can't do anything other than unite, the federal government, state, city halls and the entire society, the entire population. Only in this way can we face dengue.”
Also this Saturday, the minister will participate in events in Salvador, Bahia, a state that has already recorded eight deaths caused by dengue and is experiencing an increase in the number of infected people, with 23,458 probable cases as of February 29, according to the Department of Health of State.
In addition to Espírito Santo and Bahia, “D-Day” also takes place across the country, with actions by the ministry and state and municipal administrations to eliminate mosquitoes and initiatives with the idea of raising awareness among the population.
Explosion of cases
In the first two months of 2024, Brazil registered more than 1 million cases of dengue, 200% more than in the same period last year.
In February, the Ministry of Health began distributing doses of the first batch of the Qdenga vaccine, produced by the Takeda laboratory, to 16 states and the Federal District, which arrived in Brazil in January.
The first shipment, with 757 thousand doses, should cover at least 521 Brazilian municipalities and will immunize the population between 10 and 14 years of age.
