The president of HotéisRIO, Alfredo Lopes, points out that the current occupancy rate of hotels has been increasing since New Year’s, especially due to the movement of national tourists.

“The vast majority of guests are national tourists. There are several reasons for this scenario: the unfavorable exchange rate made Brazilians choose to travel domestically and, in addition, many preferred road transport,” says Lopes.

“These two reasons, together with our proximity to the main tourist destinations, should keep demand for our city high.”

The entity’s president attributes the good result to the fact that Rio is a cosmopolitan, diverse city, with internationally recognized tourist attractions, such as Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf Mountain.

The numerous cultural and gastronomic options also favor, in addition to natural beauties such as beaches and one of the few urban forests in the world.

“The expectation is that, even with the postponement of the parades and the suspension of the street blocks, the occupancy on the holiday will reach 85%, as there are still many reservations coming in. After all, last year, when we had a Carnival without street revelry and parades, Rio de Janeiro registered an 80% hotel occupancy rate”, says Lopes.

According to the specialist, the advance of the vaccination campaign and the actions taken by the hotel sector, such as the strict health safety protocols implemented, improved the scenario.
