7th day mass for victims of landslide in Recife takes place this Thursday (5)

The seventh-day mass for the victims of the collapse at the Morro da Conceição Sanctuary takes place this Thursday (5), at 7:30 pm, at the Morro da Conceição square, in the north of Recife.

The mass will be celebrated by the rector of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Conception, Emerson Borges.

The collapse of the church roof occurred last Friday (30), leaving two people dead and 28 injured. The seventh-day mass is in honor of Maria da Conceição Franca Pinto, 68, and Antônio José dos Santos, 54.

Health status of victims

The Pernambuco Health Department (SES-PE) updated the health status of the last two victims admitted to hospitals in Greater Recife.

According to the SES, two patients, aged 80 and 43, continue to receive multidisciplinary monitoring in public health units. One remains at the Getúlio Vargas Hospital and the other was transferred to the Memorial Jaboatão Hospital on Wednesday afternoon (4), where she underwent new pre-surgical laboratory tests for evaluation and definition of surgical programming.

The general health of both is considered stable.

On-site activities

In order to maintain the activities of the Morro da Conceição sanctuary, the City of Recife has set up a temporary structure in the block in front of the sacred space. The structure allows for masses and celebrations to be held and has a stage, lighting and sound.

Solar energy panels

A bill is currently being processed in the Legislative Assembly of Pernambuco (Alepe) that makes it mandatory to prepare a technical structural report for the installation of solar energy panels in buildings, both those already built and those yet to be built in the state.

The proposal was suggested after the collapse of the roof of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Conception. The project was published in the State Official Gazette on Wednesday (4).
