Indian actress and doctor, Dr. Priya, as she was known, died at the age of 35 after suffering a cardiac arrest. She was 8 months pregnant.
According to the British newspaper Daily Mail, the actress fell ill on Tuesday (31), while she was in hospital for a routine exam. She reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest and even with quick help, she did not survive.
Doctors then performed an emergency delivery and managed to save the baby. He is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital.
In a post on social media, actor Kishor Satya, with whom Priya worked in the soap opera Karuthamuthu, mourned his friend’s death.
“Another unexpected death in the television industry, Dr. Priya died of cardiac arrest yesterday. She was 8 months pregnant. The baby is in the ICU. She had no health problems, she went to the hospital for a routine check-up. She went into sudden cardiac arrest. The mother who is inconsolable, unable to accept the death of her only daughter,” she wrote.
Priya was known in India for pursuing her careers as an actress and a doctor at the same time. In addition to doing TV soap operas, she also worked at the PRS hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, in the southern state of Kerala.
In recent months, Priya had taken a break from her career to focus on her pregnancy and spend more time with her family.
According to the British newspaper, India is in shock over the artist’s death.
