82-year-old Mitch McConnell fell and was injured on Capitol Hill today, but “he’s fine, he’s at his desk,” according to Republican Sen. John Thune, who briefed reporters earlier about the accident. The outgoing Republican leader of the US Senate will be succeeded by the 63-year-old Thune early this year, with Republicans having secured control of the House. McConnell, 82, has said, however, that he intends to see out his term as a senator, despite his failing health. In March 2023, he fell at a campaign rally, breaking a rib and suffering a concussion. In the summer of the same year, he had “frozen” twice in front of journalists, unable to answer the questions they asked him. Mitch McConnell served as Senate Majority Leader from 2015 to 2021 and has been Minority Leader ever since. Source: RES
