An unprecedented study by the Brazilian Medical Association (AMB) reveals that 87.3% of Brazilian doctors contracted Covid-19 in the last two months, during the advancement of the Ômicron variant.
The data were released this Thursday (3) during a press conference. More than 3,500 professionals were interviewed between January 21 and 31. The margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points.
And the explosion of cases by Ômicron did not only affect the physical health of the doctors, but the mental one. The survey shows that more than half (51.6%) of professionals are apprehensive and exhausted with the current scenario of the pandemic.
The study also highlights that six out of ten doctors are overworked, and emotionally exhausted.
“These data show what is already easy to intuit. After so long a pandemic, there is exhaustion and an overload of colleagues on the front line against the disease. Society in general is exhausted with the pandemic and this is no different among doctors “, highlighted César Eduardo Fernandes, president of AMB.
in conversation with the CNNthe doctor and coordinator of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Hospital da Beneficência Portuguesa, in São Paulo, André Gasparoto, confirms the increase in cases of Covid-19 in the health unit where he works.
“I coordinate about 70 doctors and, so far, only I have not been infected by Covid-19. It is a gigantic number of health professionals who have been infected, especially those in the ICUs of the health units”, he explained, to the CNNthe doctor André Gasparoto.
According to the AMB study, in the perception of the average, 70% of Brazilians are not wearing masks correctly. However, 74% of professionals consider that vaccination is being adhered to by the population.
