9-year-old girl’s body is found in a landslide in Paraty (RJ)

After eight days of searching, the Fire Department found, on the morning of this Saturday (9), the body of a child who had been missing since the unprecedented rains that hit cities on the Costa Verde of Rio de Janeiro, on the 2nd.

This is a nine-year-old girl, found on Ponta Negra beach, in the city of Paraty. This was the seventh victim of burial at the scene and was the last person missing in the city, according to information from firefighters. The girl was at home with family members. In the landslide, his mother and five other siblings also died. In total, last weekend’s rains left 20 dead.

Among the dead, 18 were in the municipalities of Costa Verde — Angra dos Reis, with ten victims, and Paraty with seven confirmed deaths. The other two deaths were recorded in the cities of Mesquita and Cachoeira de Macacu, in the Metropolitan Region. The damage also caused more than 7,000 people to leave their homes because of the risk of collapse.

The search continues for three other missing people, on Itaguaçu beach, in Ilha Grande, a place severely affected by landslides due to the rains. The fire department works with specialized disaster search and rescue teams, with the help of drones, aircraft, backhoe loaders, boats and sniffer dogs.
