In Brazil, 96% of parents would like schools to provide free mental health services to students, according to a survey by Pearson, a global learning company.
The study revealed that Brazilians’ concern with psychological care is greater than the global average.
For the survey, more than eight thousand people from Brazil, China, India, the United Kingdom and the United States were interviewed. In the five countries surveyed, the rate of respondents who also have this desire is 92%.
This increase in demand for mental health services is a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic, according to Juliano Costa, vice president of Content Strategy at Pearson.
“After two and a half years of the pandemic, we realized that, both globally and nationally, the demand for mental health care was evident in all areas and education is not left out. In view of this scenario, parents and students want issues related to mental and psychological well-being not only to be addressed, but to be put into practice in learning spaces since the beginning of school training”, explains Costa.
Another point raised in the study is that 67% of Brazilians believe that children should be introduced to wellness and mental health programs and resources in the first years of school life.
And about 93% of parents say that schools should play a more important role in training people.
The prioritization of mental health also prevails in higher education.
According to the survey, 93% of Brazilians say they are inclined to choose universities, for themselves or for their children, that care about the mental health of their students. In world research, this rate is 90%.
Workers want psychological assistance
In addition to concerns about psychological support, the survey found that 85% of people around the world expect companies to address mental health issues more often in the workplace.
This same percentage is repeated in Brazil.
However, 62% of Brazilians stated that there is no initiative from employers in this regard.
The majority of employees (92%) consider mental health and wellness benefits to be an important part of their decision to change jobs.
