99 motorcycles are seized by SP city hall agents

Agents from the City of São Paulo seized this Wednesday afternoon (15) three motorcycles that carried out the passenger transport service through the 99 app, which is banned by the courts after the Court of Justice denied an injunction sent by the company.

According to the Department of Public Transport (DTP), the first seizure occurred at around 3:45 pm, on Avenida Calin Eid, near Avenida Amador Bueno da Veiga, in the Vila Ré region, in the East zone.

The passenger confirmed to the agents that she had requested the ride via the 99 app in Vila Ré itself, heading to the Teatro Flávio Império, in Cangaíba, with the ride costing a total of R$11, for a journey of approximately 6 kilometers.

At the end of the afternoon, two other motorcycles were also seized by inspections, both on Avenida Brás Leme, in Casa Verde, North of the capital.

The inspection approached the motorcycles that were carrying people on the back, and after confirming that they were transporting passengers through the application, the arrest was made.

A video was released by SPTrans during the moment the motorcycles approached, which had the support of the Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM).

After the seizures, the Municipal Road Use Committee (CMUV) notified the company and determined that, within 24 hours, any activity related to the service of using motorcycles for the paid individual transport of passengers in the city of São Paulo.

Last Tuesday (14), the mayor of the capital Ricardo Nunes (MDB), classified the 99 motorcycle taxi service in the capital as “carnage”, and filed a lawsuit asking for the suspension of the service.

In response to City Hall and TJSP, 99 must continue with the modality. “ANDThis decision in no way interferes with our operation, in our legal understanding, we will continue to operate normally in the city”, Bruno Rossini, communications director at 99, in an interview with CNN .

The company claims to operate in more than 3,300 cities, which 40 million Brazilians used the motorcycle service offered and, in 2024, only 0.003% of races by motorcyclists recorded traffic accidents. “We will continue to operate normally”, he states.
