A young woman from Mali, who is pregnant with seven, is expected this week in Morocco, where she will be under medical supervision.
The 25-year-old, originally from Tobuktu, has been hospitalized for about two weeks at the Point G University Medical Center in Bamako. However, “for a better follow-up of this unusual pregnancy”, her doctors preferred to send her abroad, the Ministry of Health said. Thus, she will continue her treatment in Morocco.
According to the local press, the woman is in her sixth month pregnancy and experts are concerned about her health but also about the chances of survival of the seven fetuses.
The 25-year-old will be accompanied in Morocco by her doctor and two members of her family. Her transfer was funded by the government and caretaker President Ba Dow.
The birth of seven children is extremely rare. Among the recorded cases are the McCoy children, four boys and three girls, born in 1997 in Iowa, USA. In 1998, a 40-year-old woman from Saudi Arabia gave birth prematurely to four boys and three girls weighing between 900 and 1,150 grams each. In August 2008, a 27-year-old Egyptian woman gave birth, also prematurely, to seven babies weighing 2 to 3 kg each.
