Archaeologists in Egypt discovered during excavations 3,500-year-old copy of the Bible of the Dead, filled with spells to guide the dead to the afterlife. THE papyrus found at the Tuna al-Gebel burial site and is 13-14 meters long.
According to Sara Cole of the J. Paul Getty Museum, they papyri are a form of “travel insurance” and are found in several ancient Egyptian burial sites. A first examination of this particular papyrus revealed a reference to the Bible of the Dead.
Along with the papyrus, archaeologists also found mummies of high-ranking officials of the kingdom from the time of 1550 BC. Some were still in their original stone sarcophagi in very good condition.
Very rare alabaster vases were also found in which the ancient Egyptians preserved the organs of the deceased during the mummification process. Finally, thousands of amulets were found.

Copies of the Book of the Dead may not be rare, but it is very rare to find one in the original tomb where it was placed, as in this case.
The journey to the afterlife was considered very difficult and the papyri were an instruction manual to guide the spirit. Each papyrus had to have the name of the deceased to work. The wealthiest ancient Egyptians could even choose which spells it would contain, which makes these papyri unique.
