Earthquake size 4.9 Richter occurred at 21:39 local time (20:39 Greek time) in the Yenice area, in the prefecture of Daradanelion (Canakkale) of the northwest Turkey. The focal depth of the earthquake was located at 10.44 km.
THE earthquakeexcept for the Dardanelles and neighboring prefectures, was felt in Istanbul, intensifying the residents' concerns, given the eseismologists' estimates of an impending major earthquake in the section of the northern Anatolian fault that passes south of Istanbul into the Sea of Marmara.
The Agency for Natural Disasters and Emergencies (AFAD) announced that crews have started on site surveys to check for damage. For now, as reported by APE-MPE, no injuries or collapses have been reported.
Turkey's interior minister, Ali Gerlikaya, in a post on X notes: “All teams of AFAD and related agencies have started on-site scans for the 4.9-magnitude earthquake that occurred in Yenisei, Canakkale. The earthquake was also felt in neighboring prefectures. There is no negative status at this time. We are monitoring the developments.”
