A 400-hectare drone testing area will be built in Skolkovo

The Moscow authorities announced the formation of a site in Skolkovo to create a special area for testing unmanned aerial systems (UAS) – in other words, for testing drones of various categories. The decision to make such a test site in the capital is no coincidence, because Moscow accounts for about 85% of the country’s drone market. It is reported by CNews.

Alexey Fursin, Head of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovative Development of the City of Moscow, noted that the market for civilian drones is growing every year by almost 25%, and almost all of them are Chinese developments. A special zone in Skolkovo, as the authors of the project hope, will allow Moscow companies to become leaders in this segment. More than 50 drone manufacturers and companies using them are registered in the capital.

UAS has many applications, including for landscaping: aerial photography and cartography, construction control and monitoring of industrial / energy / housing and communal services, transportation of goods and passengers, rescue operations. Of course, drones are also used for entertainment: film and video production, filming sports events and more.

A special training ground will be allocated 400 hectares, it will be closed to flights of other aircraft (for the sake of safety), and the tested drones will not be allowed to rise to a height of more than 100 meters.
