A 44-year-old American tourist died in a shark attack in the Bahamas

A 44-year-old American woman died yesterday Monday when she was attacked by shark at Bahamas, the island nation’s police announced. The tourist from Boston was paddling with a relative when she was attacked by a shark off New Providence Island.

Lifeguards rushed to help and pulled her covered in blood to shore, where she expired despite efforts to keep her alive.

Witnesses told local media that the woman had just gotten married and that the man she was paddleboarding with was her husband, but police were not immediately able to confirm whether the couple were newlyweds, according to New York Post.

Although fatal shark attacks are rare in the Bahamas, two more have been recorded in the past year and a half, Reuters notes.

On November 21, a 47-year-old German woman disappeared during a diving trip off the West End after she came face-to-face with a shark, according to a police statement.

In September 2022, a 58-year-old American woman was killed by a shark while snorkeling off New Providence Island.
