Xiao Zhen Xie, 76, said she was standing at a crossroads on Wednesday when a 39-year-old punched her in the face. She immediately found a stick nearby to defend herself and started hitting him.
The woman was injured in the eye, while the man was transported from the spot by stretcher. As rescuers removed the 39-year-old and put him in an ambulance, Xie approached him again and a police officer had to intervene to remove her.
With the stick in her hand, the woman is seen in a video shouting at the man with the handcuffs. “He hit me, he hit me,” he said in Chinese.
This incident after attack was recorded by the head of the sports department of the KPIX channel, Dennis O’Donnell, who was at the spot when he had gone for a morning run.

Her daughter also said that her mother could not see with her left eye and had not been able to eat anything.
The family set up a GoFundMe page to cover the elderly woman’s medical expenses.
