A big innovation in Android 12. Themes will affect the appearance of applications

The Android operating system is known for its extensive customization capabilities. Many manufacturers offer their own skins with unique user interfaces and features.

Most skins for Android also have support for themes, which will be taken to the next level with the release of the Android 12 operating system. According to 9to5Google, Google is working to build theme functionality into the Android 12 operating system itself.

Google introduced system-wide dark mode with the release of Android 10. This system-level feature allows apps to detect light and dark modes to change their appearance. Now a similar solution will be implemented for themes.

As with dark mode, theme functionality will have its own API. This allows supported third-party applications to recognize the installed system theme and change their appearance accordingly. As a result, applications will match the set theme, and users will get their preferred design in the style of the chosen theme in most applications and sections of the smartphone.

Android 12 will allow users to set “primary” and “accent” colors. These changes will be displayed in quick settings as well as in the background of notifications.

Android 12 testing should begin this spring.
