A British activist of the Black Lives Matter movement was shot in the head

British activist hospitalized in critical condition after being shot in the head Black Lives Matter movement, Sasha Johnson.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in the south London, announced the political party of Taking the Initiative.

London Metropolitan Police have called for witnesses after police located a woman, who they say appears to be 20-year-old, who suffered a gunshot wound in Peckham.

According to the police, the woman, who was not named, remains in the hospital and has life-threatening injuries. “We all hope that this young woman’s health will improve,” said Police Inspector Jimmy Tell.

“Our investigation is at an early stage and urgent investigations are underway to verify the circumstances,” he said.

Johnson, 27, a mother of two, is a leading figure in the Black Lives Matter movement in the UK and a member of the Taking the Initiative party’s executive committee, the party said on its Instagram account, according to Reuters and the Athens News Agency.

A friend of Johnson’s told the BBC, however, that in her opinion the incident was more a matter of settling accounts between rival gangs than of Johnson’s activism and that she thought Johnson was not the target.

Tomorrow marks exactly one year since the assassination of George Floyd in Minnesota, USA, for the death of which Sasha Johnson had taken part in many protests.
