A British court has ordered Assange extradited to the United States

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been formally extradited to the United States, where he is being prosecuted for espionage, following years of bribery.

The court has formally issued the extradition order and it is now up to Home Secretary Pretty Patel to approve it, although his lawyers can always appeal the British court ruling.

The Australian is wanted by US justice seeking to prosecute him for the transfer, since 2010, of more than 700,000 secret military and diplomatic documents, mainly concerning Iraq and Afghanistan.

His prosecution is part of espionage law, and Julian Assange faces up to 175 years in prison. Human rights organizations denounce a blatant attack on freedom of the press.

On March 14, he lost his last hope of avoiding extradition when Britain’s Supreme Court rejected his appeal.
