A case of coronavirus in a visitor closed Disneyland in Shanghai

A case of her Covid-19 Disneyland in Shanghai closed today as authorities in China try to curb a small outbreak of the disease in the country.

THE China was the first country to be affected by the new coronavirus at the end of 2019, but also the first to manage to control the pandemic as early as the spring of 2020, after implementing very restrictive measures and almost closing its borders.

The country’s authorities continue to pursue a zero-case policy, which is being strengthened as the Winter Olympics will be hosted in Beijing in February.

A outbreak of covid-19 has occurred in northern China since late October, and two cases have been reported in the capital, Beijing. Ninety-two new infections were reported today for the past 24 hours, the highest rate since mid-September.

In this context, Disneyland in Shanghai closed after a case was detected in a visitor. The woman tested positive after leaving Disneyland and returning home to a neighboring province of Shanghai.

Disneyland: Test on staff and guests

As of yesterday, all Disneyland staff underwent diagnostic tests, as did its guests. Nearly 34,000 people had been checked so far this morning, Shanghai City Hall said, according to AFP and the Athens News Agency.

All tests were negative, but authorities asked visitors and staff not to return to work or school for at least 48 hours and to undergo a new covid-19 test.

Two days earlier, Beijing’s Universal Studios park, which opened in late September, announced that cases had been identified among its visitors over the weekend.

An estimated 6 million Chinese are currently living in a lockdown due to the new outbreak, which is centered in Lanzhou, 1,200 kilometers west of Beijing.

The situation is “serious and complicated”, a representative of the Ministry of Health admitted on Saturday, emphasizing that the virus is circulating at a fast pace.
