However, now the company has decided to use rather drastic measures: Windows 10 for ARM, in whose insider assemblies the option to emulate x64 applications has been tested for about a year, will not receive this function. Microsoft announced this without giving any reason, making it clear that the function will be available (and will continue to be tested) only on Windows 11. As the name suggests, Windows for ARM is designed for devices with ARM processors. Developers are already releasing applications with support for this architecture, but the vast majority of programs are built for x64 – without emulation they cannot be run on devices with ARM chipsets. Now the segment of ARM-based computers on Windows is by no means widespread, but after the announcement and the incredible success of the new Mac models from Apple based on the M1 processors (which are also on ARM-architecture), competitors are preparing their responses.
Despite the end of support for x64 emulation in Windows 10 for ARM, this system will be supported and receive security patches until October 14, 2025 – Microsoft clearly did not abandon this platform, but unequivocally began to force the upgrade to Windows 11 for ARM.
