The story of an elderly man causes sadness of a couple married for 66 years who passed away from coronavirus with a difference of 15 minutes. For their only daughter, it was comforting that at least they “left together”.
88-year-old Bill Ilinsky and 92-year-old Esther Ilnisky died on the morning of March 1. They were next to each other in a room at the Trustbridge hostel in Pal Beach Florida.
The couple, who were celebrating their 67th wedding anniversary this weekend, fell ill in February and were diagnosed positive in COVID-19. They were hospitalized and when their condition worsened, they were taken to the hostel on February 27 to spend their last days together, according to the Daily Mail.
Bill and Esther met in church in Missouri where she played the piano and he preached and they lived together for almost 7 decades.
Their daughter, Sarah Milewski, said her parents were very careful in the first wave of the pandemic last year, taking all necessary measures. Her mother remained home, but her father became tired of being confined to the home and started going out a few times. “She could not stand it. “He needed to be with people,” he said.
According to Milewski, her mother was the first to have symptoms. It was a few days after her parents had visited her. It was February 14 and her mother’s birthday.
When they were taken to the hostel, there was no hesitation about staying together for the last few days, said Jacqueline Lopez-Devine, who works at the Trustbridge hostel. As he said, in the 15 years he has been working with people who are close to death, no couple had arrived together.
According to the couple’s daughter, they looked like when they were sleeping, the father lying on the right and the mother looking at him. Because of the restrictions, she could see her parents through a window, using a microphone to talk to them and tell them that she loved them.
Esther died at 10:15 a.m. on March 1, and Bill followed her 15 minutes later.
