A criminal case was brought against members of the dissertation council of Moscow State Pedagogical University for bribes at BTC

The TFR initiated proceedings against the head of the department and two teachers of the Moscow Pedagogical State University. They are suspected of bribery in cryptocurrency for helping to defend dissertations.

The bourgeois department of the ICR of the city of Moscow opened a criminal case on receiving and giving bribes (part 5 of article 290 of the Criminal Code, part 3 of article 291.1 of the Criminal Code) against three employees of the Moscow Pedagogical State University (MPGU): the head of the department and the chairman of the dissertation council of the MPGU Elena Levanova, senior teacher Ksenia Pleshakova and academic secretary of the council Vladimir Pleshakov. This was told by a source in the Investigative Committee of Russia. He also noted that Elena Levanova is suspected of fraud (Article 159 of the Criminal Code).

According to the investigation, the chairman of the local dissertation council, Elena Levanova, and her colleagues collected money from young scientists for their help in defending dissertations. According to security officials, the professors took bribes exclusively in BTC, receiving cryptocurrency on anonymous wallets.

The investigation established that the head of the department received 384 thousand rubles (0.106 BTC) from the applicant for a candidate’s degree. For this amount, Levanova, as the chairman of the dissertation council, was supposed to help the applicant in admission to defend the dissertation, as well as in the adoption by the council members of a positive decision on its defense. The applicant had the opportunity to answer the questions prepared in advance during the defense, and during the break of the meeting to prepare for the questions of the council.

In December last year, the BAZA Telegram channel already reported that one of the teachers of the Moscow State Pedagogical University took bribes in cryptocurrency, receiving them in bitcoins to anonymous wallets. However, not all participants in the criminal chain were advanced users of cryptocurrencies, and she had to cash out in order to distribute shares to accomplices. This money was probably found by the security forces at her house during a search.
