The Ministers of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR), Waldez Góes, and of the Environment, Marina Silva, went to Acre this Sunday (26th) to monitor the situation of the municipalities affected by heavy rains in recent days.
The delegation flew over the affected areas and walked through the streets of the Conquista neighborhood, one of the most impacted by the flash flood. The secretary of National Civil Defense, Wolnei Wolff, also participated.
In a press conference, Minister Waldez Góes stated that National Civil Defense technicians who came with the group will remain in the region to help in “carrying out the work plans for requesting federal resources for humanitarian assistance, restoring public roads, bridges and even even reconstruction of the homes of people affected by the disaster”.
The intense rains, which led to the flooding of the Acre River and Igarapés, affected more than 32,000 people in 48 neighborhoods of Rio Branco, the capital of Acre. About 1050 people are homeless and 2180 are displaced, according to the state government, which is maintaining shelters in public schools for the population.
According to the MIDR, the level of the Acre River rose more than seven meters. On Saturday (25), the Federal Government recognized the emergency situation in the state capital.
The delegation was received by the governor of Acre, Gladson Cameli, and by the mayor of Rio Branco, Tião Bocalom. Waldez Góes should also go to Manaus, in Amazonas, where heavy rains also affected the population. According to the MIDR, the minister will visit the Armando Mendes, Jorge Texeira and Nova Cidade neighborhoods, which are among the hardest hit.
