A driver was killed when his car crashed into the gate of the Russian embassy in Bucharest early in the morning, the Romanian capital’s police said in a statement.
Video recorded before firefighters arrived at the scene shows the front of the car engulfed in flames as it was still stuck at the gate of the Russian embassy.
It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.
In recent weeks, Russian embassies in other European countries have come under fire from protesters outraged by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Police said they were investigating the incident and did not release the driver’s name.
Romania announced yesterday, Tuesday, that it will expel 10 Russian diplomats who do not act in accordance with international rules, after other European countries that have done the same in recent days.
Nearly 624,860 Ukrainians have taken refuge in Romania since February 24, when Russia invaded their country, and about 80,000 are still in Romania.
