The Russian Defense Ministry announced today that a “final document” will soon be ready to allow the export of grain from Ukraine, following negotiations held with Moscow, Kyiv, Ankara and the UN this week.
“Russia’s proposals were fully supported by the participants in the consultations. And very soon the work on drafting the final document ‘The Black Sea Initiative’ will be completed,” ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said in a video released to the public from his services.
According to him, the measures proposed by Moscow should make it possible to prevent “the use of the relevant supply chains for arms deliveries to the Kiev regime”.
He did not provide further details.
On Wednesday, significant progress was announced but not detailed after a meeting of military experts in Istanbul on the thorny issue of blocking grain exports from Ukrainian ports.
Turkey is holding a new meeting next week on the issue, while the presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will meet on Tuesday in Tehran.
The UN-brokered deal aims to export through the Black Sea about 20 million tons of grain that has been blocked in Ukrainian silos due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
It is also expected to ease Russian grain and fertilizer exports, which have been affected by Western sanctions hitting Russian supply and financial chains.
Russian and Ukrainian agricultural products are essential to avoid worsening food crises in the world.
