More specifically, 1,000 NASA employees (including 150 astronauts) on mission-critical work will receive Fitbit Charge 4 bracelets and access to the Fitbit Ready for Work Daily Check-In platform.

Of course, the same astronauts constantly monitor their health, but the new NASA program is aimed at reducing the risk of infectious diseases among astronauts in the pre-flight period. Among other things, the program should help reduce the risks of COVID-19 disease.

Fitbit’s devices and platform will allow project participants to continuously monitor and record their health data. There is also now evidence that information on resting heart rate and other key health metrics from wearable electronics can detect flu-like illnesses such as COVID-19 before symptoms appear. Based on daily user data, the Fitbit platform will provide NASA employees with daily instructions to help them decide whether to go to work or stay at home.

In the future, NASA will review the results of the program and decide whether to expand it to more employees.
