A former aide to the governor of New York is accused of being a Chinese agent

Linda Shan, a former aide to New York Gov. Cathy Hokul, is accused of acting as an undercover agent for the Chinese government, Brooklyn federal prosecutors announced today. Prosecutors said the 41-year-old woman was arrested today and is due to appear in court later in the day. Her husband, Chris Hu, has also been charged. During her time in the state administration, Sun allegedly prevented representatives of the Taiwanese government from meeting with officials and tried to arrange for a high-ranking New York state official to visit China. In return, representatives of the Chinese government facilitated Hu’s multi-million dollar transactions. Chris Hu is doing business in China. Among the other gifts they received were Nanjing-style pickled ducks cooked by a Chinese government official’s personal chef and delivered to Shan’s parents’ home. Lawyers for the couple did not respond to a request for comment. Source: RES
