selected by Unit Youth Outreach of the European Parliament among the 50 most influential young European founders, speaker, mentor and academic speaker in various thematic meetings, in 2019 she was included by Forbes Italy among the «100 leaders of the future under 30» in the «Social Entrepreneur» category. Giusy Sica, 32, comes from Salerno, where he studied Management of Businesses and Cultural Entities. After graduating, he gave up a permanent position to choose a life made up of travels around Italy, to spread the word ofinclusion and equal rights. Since then, her curriculum has been enriched with collaborations in the academic field and interventions for the development of the territory, in the name of “regeneration”, a key concept for her, so much so that she founded Re-Generation (Y) outh Think tank, an independent network of Italian women aiming at the political, social, economic and cultural empowerment of young women through sustainability, cultural regeneration, innovation and continuous training.
What are the strengths of your training?
«Certainly the ability to look a little beyond one’s own horizon and to think not on fixed concepts or predefined schemes, but with a perspective and strategic vision. The humanistic culture has been fundamental for my path, even if I would prefer to speak of an interpenetration between several disciplines, which has allowed me to break the limits and to anticipate the times. Studying history, archeology, being curious about where we come from are things that can go hand in hand with other knowledge, to pave the way for a full and aware knowledge ».
What contexts are you working in the most today?
“I am active where greater social gender disparities emerge, trying to break down a series of barriers, together with students and female students. For example, there are still too stringent definitions regarding professional profiles, while a “transdisciplinary” approach would be needed. For women, hindered by discrimination and prejudice, the path is not easy at all, but it represents the constant that characterizes all my daily actions, as a research fellow and founder of “Regeneration Youth” ».
What is it about?
«It is a think tank, literally ‘reservoir of thought’, a concept that when we started, four years ago, was strongly conditioned by a stereotype that saw it strongly linked to something political and Masonic. We wanted to use this formula to think about empowerment, without ever separating theory and practice. The aim is to act as a bridge between the needs of the communities and those who make the decisions, since the latter often do not take into account requests and needs: so let’s try to be a glue with respect to the institutions ».
At the European level, for example, he organized, together with his team, one
“Competition” centered on policies in favor of women.
“Yes, the idea of the activity was born from the participation, in 2018, in the European Youth Event, held in Strasbourg by the European Parliament, during which our proposal, on education and civic education, was included in the final report of the event and we got to exhibit it a few months later in Brussels. In this year’s edition, which took place in October, we created a “Women’s policies Battle”, to collect ideas and reflections and seek solutions at a political level ».
A desire to do that is repeated on a national scale with “Pnrr Under 40” and “Costituende”, projects that you have recently promoted.
“In the first, which started in July 2021, we are working in synergy with the Honorable Emanuela Rossini –
Vice-President of the Commission of the Chamber of Deputies for European Union Policies – starting from the need to dialogue with the younger generations. So far we have dealt with the missions relating to the ecological transition and tourism, initiating consultations with about 40 different realities, which will continue on several fronts. By doing so, a set of points will emerge that we will submit to the Prime Minister at the beginning of 2022, in a public meeting. At the same time, with “Costituende”, we want to fight for solid female representation
in the ambition of having, in the next five years, a 70% constituted government
by young women “.
What do you imagine for your future?
“An incredible, beautiful question. Often we tend to put aside our dreams at certain times. I try to raise the bar more and more, to ask myself what are my limits and my aspirations. One of these is to leave, in some time, “Regeneration Youth” to make it walk on its own legs, thanks to the maturity of the girls who are part of it. Having followed him since birth, it would be nice to see him explode and continue to be useful not only as an incubator but in making people feel at home. And then I don’t want to stop being passionate about the themes that make me “burn”, a word that is a bit the common thread of my whole story ».
