In September 2019, Google promised that a convenient organization of open sites would appear in its Chrome browser. A year later, desktop Chrome got a tab grouping feature. Now, Chrome for Android also comes with a new way of working with tabs, much more convenient than before.

Google has already started spreading the innovation to all users. Until now, when clicking on the icon at the top of the browser window with the number of open tabs, the user received a vertically organized “stack”, in which the names of the tabs were often difficult to even make out. Now, a more convenient grid display is used.

Each of the tabs is shown as a thumbnail that is easy to identify. At the top of each tab are the page icon, title, and close button. You can also swipe left / right to quickly get rid of an unwanted page. The new tab open icon has moved to the upper left corner.
On most smartphones, users will see 6 tabs before scrolling appears. Incognito tabs no longer appear after a stack of regular pages. Instead, we see a handy toggle between Normal and Incognito at the top of the browser window.
The new way of organizing tabs also brings a brand new feature to Chrome on Android – page grouping. User can drag and drop one tab to another to group. Also the “Group tabs” item appeared in the main menu. When groups appear, in the normal view of the page, a new panel with icons will appear at the bottom to quickly switch between groups.
