A hurricane named Meghan (Markle) over London: what’s going to happen?

A hurricane in name Meghan (Markle) is about to hit London. The Duchess is returning to the UK – with Harry and the children Archie And Lilibet Diana – for the first time since the Megxit. But especially after the poisoned arrows launched with her husband via TV (see the infamous interview to Oprah Winfrey) against the royal family. So he will have all eyes on him and will unleash rumors, indiscretions, comments and controversies with every single move. Especially since some of the most respected British royal observers do not like it at all. Because she accuses her of turning Elizabeth II’s nephew into a doll without will in his hands.

The rebellious couple’s participation in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations for the former US actress could be the opportunity to sign a truce with the royal family (and royal fans) or, on the contrary, to settle the score. His intentions are currently unknown. But certainly the former actress will have to unleash all the talent accumulated over the years on the set to face some meetings that promise to be particularly embarassing.

First of all the one with Kate Middleton. It is inevitable that in her London living room Markle will find herself facing her “rival” sister-in-law (not on the royal balcony, where Sussex will not be allowed). A face to face that in all probability will not make either of them jump for joy. During the interview with Oprah Winfrey, Markle, in fact, brought Middleton directly into play accusing her in front of millions of viewers of making her cry, a few days before her royal wedding with Harry, “for a problem concerning the dresses of the bridesmaid, her daughter Charlotte”. Impossible that the Duchess of Cambridge has forgotten those poison words. And in any case relations between the two were not idyllic long before the Megxit. As Richard Kay, royal correspondent of the Daily Mail, Meghan has always been obsessed with Kate. Because in her opinion she was treated very differently from that of William’s wife. One thing is certain: whatever the two say (or don’t say), Kate won’t be upset. As always, she will show up in public with her reassuring and winning smile. Meghan will instead have to resort to all her talent as a former actress in order not to reveal emotions that could give rise to an avalanche of criticism.

Another inevitable and insidious encounter will be the one with another central woman in the royal family, the future queen, wife of Charles, Camilla. Seen the not exactly cordial relationship three o’clockas reported by a flood of chronicles that have followed one another in recent years, we will need all the coolness on the part of both to have a peaceful interview. The last time Meghan was in London, in March 2020, she gave a poignant speech on the occasion of the Women’s Day, in a school in the capital. In which she said that it is more important than ever for women to have the courage to “speak out to defend what they think is right.” A phrase that seemed to refer to her choice to leave court. But that she, above all, she had ended up obscuring Camilla and the speech she had given that same day at the Women Of The World Festival. An appointment that the Duchess of Cornwall was particularly fond of. From that rudeness it seems that relations have inevitably cracked. And time has widened the distances. Will it take just a few minutes, between one official celebration and another in honor of Elizabeth, to bring the two together?

Of course, if Meghan needed to escape, even for a few hours, from the climate of the royal family and the stress of official commitments, in London he might find refuge with a couple of longtime friends: David and Victoria Beckham. The former footballer and Posh Spice own a wonderful villa in one of the most chic London districts of the city, Holland Park. And they have a large secret garden, reachable by an ad hoc passage, which guarantees maximum privacy. A perfect place to gossip a little about the royal family, to let off steam or just to relax. Because for Meghan, the return to London, apparently, will be anything but a relaxing trip.

Less relaxed than her, according to British gossip, would be the members of the royal family. Reason: they fear that Meghan’s return may “overshadow” the queen on the most important anniversary of his life. But maybe they are wrong. Maybe the time has come to leave spite and poison behind. Markle is about to return to London with the spirit of someone who has embarked on a path away from court in the sign of independence. So what is least expected could also happen: that he puts aside recriminations and intolerances to try to reconnect cordial relations with his august relatives.
