The message that the strengthening of the ties of Hellenes Abroad with the metropolitan center is a national and political priority and that the State must in practice be firmly by the side of Greeks everywhere, sends in an interview with the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency the Deputy Undersecretary. Giving the stigma of the policy for Hellenes Abroad, Andreas Katsaniotis makes it clear that Greece is moving at all levels, based on a structured plan, in order to connect even more with its children who live beyond its borders and to integrate functionally. in the national body all Greeks, wherever they live.
Emphasizing the importance of the role of Hellenes Abroad, the Undersecretary of State speaks of a huge and precious national capital of our country that “we have a debt and a goal to unite and mobilize for the promotion of our country.”
Andreas Katsaniotis makes special mention of the “invaluable contribution of world Hellenism in creating an international shield against the growing Turkish aggression”.
Unfolding the grid of initiatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Hellenes Abroad, the Undersecretary focuses on the digitization of the approximately 130 Greek diplomatic authorities around the world so that expatriates are served easily, quickly and without bureaucratic hassles. “The digital transformation of our diplomatic authorities is proceeding on schedule and from the new year Greeks abroad will be able to be served electronically,” he assures.
At the same time, he notes that the mechanisms of Public Diplomacy are being modernized “in order to communicate directly with the citizens of other countries and to promote our values, ideas, aspirations and policies”.
He also emphasizes that the government is working in the direction that the State provides all the tools to the 4th and 5th generation Greek children so that they are not cut off from our language, history, religion and culture.
In addition, he announced that the creation of a new category -a 12th link- is being promoted on the home page of gov.gr entitled “Expatriates”. This option will include in a group all the electronic services that concern our expatriates, such as for example the new Register for special voter lists abroad, copies of criminal records, recognition of academic degree, etc.
It also highlights the importance of religious diplomacy in foreign policy. “Today, religious diplomacy is a key aspect of our foreign policy, as we enter a new era in the Eastern Mediterranean, where religious issues have always been paramount,” he said.
Furthermore, it focuses on the “excellent” cooperation of Greece with Cyprus on Diaspora issues, both bilaterally and multilaterally, and highlights the strategic importance that the Greek government attaches to the grid of regional cooperation schemes, which are based on common perceptions for a number of critical issues. “Our Diaspora is a solid” bridge “and a stable link for the strengthening of the bonds of our states,” he points out.
Finally, the Undersecretary of State blames Turkey’s behavior “as a disturbance of international legitimacy” and says that the response to Ankara’s revisionism is the deterrent strengthening of our country at the diplomatic and military levels.
