Our body in space, our relationship with food and therefore nutrition, trauma, healing: are the protagonists of “A la Carte”, the artist’s solo show Dora Perini curated by the architect Riccardo Rizzetto presented by London art gallery Des Bains in conjunction with Miart 2021, the international modern and contemporary art fair in Milan.
The exhibition will be held from 17 to 24 September at the Maroncelli 12 space (via Pietro Maroncelli 12), and it will be an opportunity to question oneself on these great themes through numerous works: paintings, installations, videos, some photographs, works in ceramics and on paper made by the artist with different techniques ranging from acrylic on canvas to printing on canvas with acrylic and graphite, and then sculptures in glazed ceramic, to arrive at multi-material installations – such as «Internal Organs» – made of metal, painted foam and mirrors.
“Perini’s work – explains the architect and art director Riccardo Rizzetto – it ranges between a wide variety of mediums, where each piece is connected to the other by the common thread of the desire for healing, which unfolds through the themes dealt with “. The exhibition, in fact, is also a journey guided by the artist’s personal experience through trauma and healing processes, in which the theme of nutrition is central.
“A la Carte” – says Dora Perini – it is conceived as a menu, whose courses disturb the common perception of corporeality and spatiality. Concepts like that of «Fat Lady», a genderless body that fills the space and sometimes hosts other bodies – and which turns out to be the alter ego of the artist herself – and that of “Cut”, or trauma, which allows an exchange preparatory to healing, are part of an evolutionary spiral“. And so there Fat Lady is like a malleable material which allows you to exorcise your own experience through trauma, ela nudity represents a ritual to regain possession of spaces, in a physical and metaphorical sense, and to welcome the different, evolve.
The relationship with the body and space, trauma as a breaking point but also a source of progress are central themes of Dora Perini’s work: «À la Carte» is an opportunity to confirm one’s own creative style, but also to pose a question on the actual freedom we have to choose our food, in a world where the food industry urgently offers us messages of all kinds.
