A lawmaker triggered the alarm in Congress for no reason and ate… a bell – He was “caught” by the security cameras

A Democratic US lawmaker has been fined after admitting he deliberately set off the alarm in Congressresulting in the building being evacuated, when a crucial vote was about to take place.

Jamal Bowman pleaded guilty in a Washington court and agreed to pay a $1,000 fine. He will also write a letter of apology to the security forces, in exchange for dropping the prosecution against him.

Bowman, 47, who is elected in New York, is a former school principal. He said that on September 30th he was in a hurry to get to the chamber of the House of Representatives to pass the bill that would remove the possibility of federal state paralysis and sounded the alarm because he couldn’t open a door.

Bowman’s actions captured by security cameras. The building was evacuated for an hour.

Republicans, who hold the majority in the House, have accused him of trying to block the vote and plan to remove him from the parliamentary committees on which he sits.

Bowman is known for his progressive views and his verbal sparring with Republicans in Congress. As he said, he is satisfied with the fact that the police decided that “he did not obstruct, nor did he intend to obstruct” the functioning of the Parliament.
