Immediately following the announcement of the Bose QuietComfort 45 headphones last week, Bose introduced the Smart Soundbar 900, which supports Dolby Atmos, HDMI eARC, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. There’s support for AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect, and connectivity to other Bose smart speakers for multi-room audio.
The company claims the Smart Soundbar 900 uses “Bose spatial technology” to create “a level of realism that no other speaker can match.” In addition to Dolby Atmos, there is Bose TrueSpace technology that takes over spatial effects. It also claims that QuietPort technology “delivers exceptional bass and virtually no distortion at any volume.”
The Bose Smart Soundbar 900 is 9cm high, about 10cm deep and 104cm long, with capacitive touch controls at the top. The soundbar looks great with 50-inch and larger TVs. But of course it can be installed anywhere and used with smaller TVs. The Bose Smart Soundbar 900 is available in black or white.
You can connect the speaker to your TV with a single HDMI eARC cable and connect to it via Wi-Fi from your smartphone for AirPlay or Spotify Connect. Google Assistant and Alexa are also used to control the speaker using voice. With Alexa, you can receive and make phone calls. Using Alexa also activates the Bose Voice4Video feature, which lets you turn on the TV on a given channel or input.
The Bose Smart Soundbar 900 can be pre-ordered from the Bose website for $ 900 and will go on sale September 23.
