Signed on the 12the July 2022, Memorandum of Cooperation between the Competition Commission (EA) and the Capital Market Commission (EC), by the President of the Competition Commission Professor Mr. Ioannis Lianos and the President of the EC, D.N. Mrs. Vassiliki Lazarakou, with the aim of consolidating and strengthening the cooperation between the two Authorities, as well as the development of closer ties between them.
The EA as competent and charged in accordance with Law 3959/2011 with safeguarding the smooth operation of free competition and the EC as a public supervisory authority responsible for the protection of investors and ensuring the orderly operation of the Greek capital market, agreed with the due to the Memorandum to enter into a strategic cooperation between them and in particular to:
– strengthening existing cooperation,
– exchange of know-how and utilization of the experience of the two Authorities, with the aim of benefiting the governed, the economy and the public interest in general, and
– taking comprehensive and effective decisions on the basis of timely and substantial cooperation and exchange of information and opinions in the areas of cooperation of the two Authorities.
Particular importance was given to the creation of joint working groups for the preparation of guidelines, studies and research on matters of common interest, within the framework of the responsibilities of the two authorities.
The two Authorities agreed, among other things, to undertake information activities to promote policies and strategies to inform economic operators/participants, in matters related to the responsibilities of the two Authorities, for the benefit of society, the economy and the public interest, as and in the organization of seminars and other informative activities.
The President of the EC, Mrs. Vasiliki Lazarakou, said: “It is particularly important to strengthen the already excellent cooperation between the Capital Market Commission and the Competition Commission, an institution that is of particular importance for the Greek economy, as is the Capital Market Commission, since it seeks to strengthen supervision of the two authorities in matters of common interest, through which we aspire to achieve the most efficient functioning of the Greek market and economy as a whole”.
EA President Mr. Ioannis Lianos stated the following “Partnerships such as this between EA and EC create an ecosystem to protect healthy competition in the market, which contributes to more effective consumer and investor protection, promotes sound corporate governance and dissemination of business and investment opportunities, for the benefit of society, the economy and sustainable development. know-how of both sides and the implementation of the described actions, consumers and businesses will benefit manifold.”
