The extradition case against Do Kwon has returned to the original court for a new trial, Bloomberg reported, citing unnamed sources close to the proceedings.
The reason for the decision was a protest from lawyers who noticed new procedural errors that were not taken into account in the decision of the High Court of Podgorica.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice of Montenegro and its head Andrzej Milovic insist on handing Kwon over to US law enforcement agencies. The judicial authorities decided that the businessman should be extradited to his homeland, South Korea.
Throughout the protracted legal battle, U.S. Justice Department officials and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) repeatedly pushed for the case to be transferred and Do Kwon extradited to the United States. The day before, the Ministry of Justice of Montenegro and the SEC delegation, headed by Director of Investigations Gurbir Grewal, met in Podgorica to discuss their further actions.
