The Moscow Regional Court sentenced Stanislav Moiseev, co-founder of the largest darknet platform Hydra, which processed cryptocurrency transactions worth more than $5 billion, to life imprisonment.

The court found Moiseev guilty of organizing a criminal community, illegal production and sale of psychotropic substances and drugs, including through electronic means of communication. The same applies to his 15 accomplices: Alexander Chirkov, Andrey Trunov, Evgeny Andreev, Ivan Koryakin, Vadim Krasninsky, Georgy Georgobiani, Artur Kolesnikov, Nikolay Bilyk, Alexander Khramov, Kirill Gusev, Anton Gaikin, Alexey Gukalin, Mikhail Dombrovsky, Alexander Aminov and Sergei Chekh.

In addition to the life sentence, the court imposed a fine of 4 million rubles on Moiseev. Moiseev’s accomplices will have to serve in prison from 8 to 23 years, and also pay a fine totaling 16 million rubles. The defendants will serve their sentences in special and strict regime correctional colonies. As part of the sentence, the convicted persons will have their vehicles, land and real estate confiscated.

The darknet platform Hydra was launched in 2015 and closed in 2022. By data US Department of Justice, Hydra was the largest black market, accounting for approximately 80% of all underground crypto transactions. In addition to drugs, Hydra sold stolen credit card information and fake IDs.

In April 2022, German authorities shut down the servers of this marketplace and also confiscated $25 million worth of bitcoins. Local police reported that 17 million customers and 19,000 accounts of suppliers of prohibited goods were registered on the platform.
