A mother used his new technology deepfake to make fake photos and videos with her daughter’s rival cheerleaders to drive them out of the group.
Raffaela Spone from Pennsylvania, USA, then sent the counterfeit material to the Victory Vipers team, so that coach Mark McTague could see his cheerleaders “naked, smoking and drinking.”
THE deepfake technology employs artificial intelligence to distort images and videos in a way that is difficult to see with the naked eye. The mother, however, was caught and is now charged with a host of offenses.
Spone did not just send the photos to the team, but even sent the falsified material to the girls’ parents.
According to the local police department, the daughter may not have known anything about the mother’s malicious plan. It was the victim’s parent who went to police in July, saying his daughter was receiving threatening messages from an unknown number.
Two more families reported similar messages in the following days. The mother entered social media of girls to find material for deepfake pictures.
