A new challenge by Erdogan: “Our archaeologists will explore every place where Turks have pressed”

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during an international archeology symposium in Ankara made a statement with a “fragrance” of new Ottomanism. It announced that Turkey is going to expand its archaeological activities beyond its borders, with the aim of “capturing” the cultural heritage in every area where historical Turks have hit. In particular, Erdogan said that Turkish experts “will first explore our country and then every place where Turks have pressed, carefully recording our cultural heritage”. The Turkish president stressed that his country protects and restores its cultural heritage both within its “geography of its heart” and in other parts of the world.
