A new inhabitant on Mars: the United States successfully landed the Perseverance rover with a helicopter-drone

Seven months of travel from Earth, during which the spacecraft of the Mars 2020 mission covered almost half a billion kilometers, ended late in the evening of February 18 with the successful landing of the American Perseverance rover in the Jezero crater on Mars. The event was broadcast by the US Aerospace Administration.

They told about the sequence of fully autonomous descent and landing in the last article.

At 22:56 Kiev time, a signal was received from the rover, which indicates that the landing was successful and the main systems of the six-wheeled robot are in order.

The news is supplemented …

In the coming days, a full functional check will be carried out, after which the rover will begin to perform the main tasks of the mission. Perseverance, under the bottom of which is also placed a small helicopter drone for exploring the Red Planet “from the air”, will look for traces of past life in the crater. Previously, it was, as scientists believe, a huge lake.
