A new largest iceberg has appeared in the world – it is as large as five Kievs: photo

From the western side of the Ronne Ice Shelf, which lies in the Weddell Sea in Antarctica, a huge iceberg A-76 broke away. Its area is 4320 km², which is commensurate with the area of five Kyivs (839 km²). This is stated on the website of the European Space Agency.

The iceberg is about 170 km long and 25 km wide.

The huge size of the iceberg makes it the largest in the world – it bypassed the A-32A iceberg (about 3880 km²), which is also in the Weddell Sea.

“For comparison, the area of the A-74 iceberg that broke away from the Brunt Ice Shelf in February this year was only 1270 km²,” the scientists note.
